Can Chiropractic Care Help with Neck Pain?
Yes. Neck pain is one of the most common conditions treated at Full Swing Healthcare and chiropractic care is genuinely effective for most cervical spine problems.
The cervical spine has seven vertebrae, a dense network of muscles, and multiple sets of nerves running through and alongside it. When a joint in the neck becomes restricted or misaligned, it can cause local pain, radiating pain into the shoulder or arm, headaches, stiffness, and limited range of motion. Chiropractic adjustments restore normal joint motion in those restricted segments, which reduces nerve irritation and allows the surrounding musculature to relax.
Jacksonville creates a lot of neck pain. Long commutes on I-295 and I-95 mean hours of sitting in a fixed position. Office jobs in Southside and Downtown put people at screens for eight to ten hours a day. The forward head posture that develops from screen use puts enormous load on the posterior cervical muscles and facet joints. Over time, the joints become restricted, the muscles chronically tight, and the condition progresses from minor stiffness to pain that limits daily activity.
Common cervical conditions treated at the clinic include whiplash from car accidents, posture-driven cervical dysfunction from desk work, cervical disc herniations with or without arm pain, facet joint arthritis, and muscle tension that has progressively restricted the joint. Each of these has a different treatment method and the assessment done on your first visit identifies which one you're dealing with.
Dr. Muren routinely combines cervical adjustments with soft tissue work on the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, and suboccipital muscles. Those muscles hold the tension that pulls the cervical spine back into dysfunction even after a good adjustment. Treating the joint and the surrounding tissue together is how results last between visits instead of wearing off in a day or two. Some patients also benefit from dry needling or acupuncture to address deep trigger points in the cervical musculature that manual therapy doesn't always reach as well.
Cervical disc herniations deserve specific attention. If your neck pain is accompanied by arm pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the hand, you likely have nerve root involvement from a disc. Chiropractic can be very effective for this but requires more careful handling. Dr. Muren will assess your neurological signs on your first visit and adjust the treatment plan accordingly. If imaging like an MRI would change how we treat you, we'll tell you and refer you for that imaging.
Most patients with acute neck pain see real improvement within three to six visits. Chronic neck problems that have been building for years take longer, but they do respond. If neck pain has been affecting your sleep, your concentration, or your ability to turn your head while driving, that's enough reason to come in. Call (904) 539-3352 or book online and we'll assess the cervical spine properly on your first visit.
