How Long Does a Chiropractic Appointment Take?
It depends on whether it's your first visit or a follow-up, and what services are included in your care plan.
Your first appointment at Full Swing Healthcare will take 45 to 60 minutes. That time is used for a full health history intake, orthopedic and neurological testing, posture and movement evaluation, and a review of any imaging you bring, including X-rays or MRI results. By the end of the first visit, you'll have a clear picture of what's wrong and a specific care plan with a realistic timeline. Most new patients also receive their first adjustment at the end of that visit.
Follow-up visits are shorter, typically 20 to 30 minutes. Dr. Muren checks in on how you've been feeling, adjusts the treatment based on your progress, and delivers the adjustment and any soft tissue work that's part of your plan. These visits are structured to be efficient without cutting corners on the actual treatment.
If your care plan includes Shockwave Therapy, the treatment itself runs 10 to 15 minutes on the targeted area, so a combined shockwave and adjustment visit will run closer to 40 minutes. Acupuncture sessions where needles are retained for 20 to 30 minutes add that time to the visit as well. Cupping and IASTM scraping add 10 to 20 minutes depending on the areas being treated. When multiple modalities are combined in a single visit, we always give you an accurate time estimate when you book so you can plan accordingly.
DOT physical examinations take approximately 30 to 45 minutes and are separate from chiropractic care. Commercial drivers who come in for their FMCSA medical certificate can usually complete the exam and receive their certificate the same day if there are no complications.
One thing worth knowing about the Jacksonville area: many patients schedule appointments around Beach Blvd traffic, particularly during the morning and evening commute windows. If you're coming from Southside, the Beaches, or Ponte Vedra, late morning appointments often offer the smoothest drive. We do offer early evening appointments on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday through 7pm for patients who can't leave work mid-day.

New patients sometimes ask whether the first appointment is mostly paperwork and talking rather than actual treatment. At Full Swing Healthcare it is not. The intake form is completed before you arrive. The first 20 minutes of your appointment are the clinical examination. The last portion of the visit is treatment. Most new patients leave their first appointment having already received an adjustment and a clear picture of what is wrong and what the plan is to fix it.
For patients managing chronic conditions who have been in care before, appointments tend to run around 20 minutes. For patients combining multiple services in one visit, 45 minutes is more realistic. We do not overbook. If you have a specific time constraint on the day of your appointment, let the front desk know when you book and we will structure the visit to fit.
